Answers to the most common questions about MoneyBoss Home.
When you first open the app, enter your name, choose your currency, and set a PIN. That's it — no account or sign-up required.
Go to Profile → Name and edit your name.
Go to Profile → Language and pick any language from the list.
Go to Profile → Currency and pick any currency from the list.
Go to Profile → Reminder and select the time at which you need to be notified every day to log expenses.
Go to Profile → toggle on Biometrics. You will be shown a warning reminding you not to forget your PIN — biometrics is a convenience layer, not a replacement.
The dashboard shows your total spending for the selected month, a budget progress bar, a breakdown by category group, top spending categories, account/priority/people insights, and a 12-month history chart.
Tap Set Budget on the dashboard. Enter a monthly amount and tap Save. The progress bar will show how much of your budget you have used and how much remains.
Tap the month name at the top of the dashboard (e.g. "JUL 2026") to open the month picker.
When your spending is above or below your 12-month average, a % badge appears on the total card. It helps you compare spending at a glance.
Tapping a slice filters the Recent list below to show only expenses from that category group.
Swipe the Top Spends card to view the Insights card and swipe back to go back to the Top Spends card.
Tapping a bar in the history card will load the dashboard for that month and long tapping will show the monthly total.
Tap the + tab at the bottom. Select a category from the left panel, fill in the amount and item name, then tap Submit. People, Account, Priority and Notes are optional.
Tap any expense in the recent list. It will load into the form for editing. Make your changes and tap Save.
While editing an expense, tap Del. You have 10 seconds to undo the deletion by tapping Undo.
Archive moves an expense out of your active list without deleting it permanently. You can view, restore, or delete archived expenses from Profile → Archived Expenses.
Yes, for the current month. Use the search bar to filter by item name. Tap the filter icon to filter by account, priority, or people.
The calculator tab is a built-in calculator. Tap = and the result is automatically entered into the amount field.
Favourites let you save a form preset — category, item, amount, account, priority, and people — so you can re-enter a recurring expense in one tap. You can save up to 5 favourites.
Fill in the form then tap the Favourites ★ button at the top left of the Add Expense screen. Give it a label and tap Add.
Your favourites appear at the top of the left panel under the Favourites ★ header — tap any one to instantly pre-fill the form. To delete, long-press a favourite to enter multi-select, select the ones to remove, then tap Delete.
The archived expenses hold expenses you have removed from your active list but not permanently deleted. Think of it as a bin you can recover from.
Go to Profile → Archived Expenses. Long-press an expense to enter multi-select, select the ones to restore, then tap the restore icon.
You can delete individual expenses using the delete icon, or delete all at once using the delete sweep icon in the top right.
Yes. Use the search bar or the filter icon to filter by category, item, or date range.
The app comes with categories across groups like Home, Food, Transport, Wellness, and more. These cover most everyday expenses.
Yes, with a Pro subscription. Go to Profile → Custom Categories to add groups, categories, and items. On the free plan, default categories are read-only.
Yes, with a Pro subscription. Tap the menu (⋮) next to any category in the editor to rename, move, merge, reorder, delete or add any number of categories.
Your expenses are not deleted. They are automatically moved to Uncategorized so no data is lost.
Uncategorized is a system category that holds expenses whose original category was deleted. Select Uncategorized in the Add Expense screen to see all uncategorized expenses across all months — tap any to edit and reassign.
Tags are assigned to expenses to understand the classification of spending. These are optional to select while submitting an expense.
Use account to analyse the source of spending, use priority to analyse the nature of spending, use people to analyse how much you spent for whom.
Yes, with a Pro subscription. Tap the menu (⋮) next to any tag in the editor to rename, reorder, delete or add up to a maximum of 4 tags per type. Priority tags are not customisable.
Your expenses are not deleted. They are automatically moved to Other so no data is lost.
Tap Profile → Reports. Requires Pro.
Quick presets include Today, This Week, This Month, Last Month, This Year, and Custom (pick any date range).
Compare mode lets you compare two periods side by side — for example, last month vs. this month — and see the change in spending per category.
Tap the filter icon to open the filter sheet. You can filter by category (with a drill-down group → category → item picker), account, priority, and people.
Tap the PDF icon in the top right of the Reports screen. The report is generated and shared via your device's share sheet.
A family member generates a QR code of their monthly expenses. You scan it to import their data into a separate family expenses table. Your personal data is never affected.
Go to Profile → Family Share. Select your name and the month, then tap Generate. Show the QR code to the person receiving your data. Sending does not require Pro.
Go to Profile → Family Share and switch to Receive. Point your camera at the QR code. Once all chunks are scanned, review the preview and tap Import. Receiving requires Pro.
No. It works entirely offline using your camera. No internet or server is involved.
Go to Reports → Family tab. You can filter by member and export a family PDF report.
You will be asked whether to replace the existing import. Confirming replaces the old data — no duplicates are created.
Go to Profile → Local Backup → Back Up. A file picker opens — choose where to save the encrypted .mbh backup file.
Go to Profile → Local Backup → Restore. Enter your PIN to decrypt and restore.
Google Backup automatically saves a copy of your data to your Google Drive. Requires Pro.
Yes. Sign in with the same Google account on the new device, go to Profile → Google Backup → Restore. Enter your PIN. Requires Pro.
Google Backup runs automatically every 24 hours (Pro only). Local backup is manual — tap Back Up any time.
Go to Profile → Change PIN. Enter your current PIN, then enter and confirm your new PIN.
After 3 wrong attempts the app locks with a countdown. After the countdown you can try again.
For your security, the app requires PIN re-verification once in a while. This prevents you from forgetting your PIN if you only ever use biometrics.
Your PIN cannot be recovered. It is never stored anywhere. If you forget your PIN, you will need to delete the account and start fresh. This is why remembering your PIN is critical.
Pro unlocks Family Sharing (receive), Custom Categories & Tags, Reports & PDF Export, and Google Backup.
Yes. A trial gives you access to all Pro features. During the trial you can add one custom category group and customise one default tag per type. Trial customisations are kept even after the trial ends.
Your data is never deleted. All your customisations (custom categories, custom tags) remain on your device but are locked — you cannot edit them until you resubscribe. Premium screens (Reports, Family Sharing (receive), Google Backup) become inaccessible.
Go to Profile → Membership → Restore Purchase. Your subscription is verified via the Play Store/App Store account signed in on the device.
No. MoneyBoss Home works fully offline. Internet is only needed if you choose to use optional Google Backup.
Yes. All your data is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. No analytics, no tracking, no ads.
No. MoneyBoss Home has no analytics, no crash reporting, and no data collection. The only external service used is Google, and only if you choose to enable Google Backup.
Go to Profile → Delete Expenses. You can delete expenses for the current month, a custom date range, or all time. PIN is required to confirm.
Go to Profile → Delete Account. Enter your PIN to confirm. This permanently deletes your profile and all data on the device. This cannot be undone.
Your local data is deleted. Your Google Backup file remains in your Google Drive until you delete it manually.
